Experts Discuss Energy Transition Architecture for Central Asia

Astana, March 2, 2026 — Experts from government institutions, research organizations, universities, and industry gathered for an international seminar dedicated to the future architecture of the energy transition in Central Asia.

The event was organized by the international think tank Agora Energiewende, the ECOJER Association, and the Carbon Platform of the Astana International Financial Centre.

Among the participants was George Kekelidze, Executive Director of EUROSOLAR Georgia & EUROSOLAR Uzbekistan and Director of Innovation Energy LLC, who joined the panel discussion on regional cooperation in the energy transition.

The seminar explored key challenges facing energy systems in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan as countries seek to modernize infrastructure while reducing carbon emissions.

Participants discussed how advanced energy system modeling tools such as TIMES, PyPSA SPICE, PLEXOS, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory can support strategic planning and help governments evaluate different pathways for the development of national energy systems.

The second part of the seminar focused on flexibility and reliability of power systems, particularly in the context of integrating growing shares of renewable energy.

Experts highlighted the importance of coordinated policy frameworks, grid modernization, and regional cooperation to ensure a smooth and economically efficient transition toward cleaner energy systems across Central Asia.
